When I first visited Myanmar in 2015, people were filled with excitement for the future that democratization seemed to promise. It appeared to be a time overflowing with hope, yet in truth light and shadow were already locked in struggle. After the coup of February 2021, Myanmar was once again cast almost entirely into darkness.
