This month, NHK featured me on its terrestrial program,"Catch! World's Top News (キャッチ！世界のトップニュース)", while the previous day we welcomed them a live broadcast from Docu Athan Square, our base on the Thai–Myanmar border, on NHK BS’s International News.
Behind the Myanmar military's “sham election,” airstrikes on civilians and the arrest of journalists are intensifying. If no one is there to document these realities, they never become news.
At Docu Athan, we support people who share information from the ground journalists, media workers, and artists, to strengthen first-hand reporting and amplify the voices of those directly affected.

“The Person” is a segment that focuses on individuals who confront a turbulent world head-on. This episode features documentary filmmaker Toru Kubota. While reporting on citizens protesting in Myanmar after the military seized power in a coup, he was detained by security authorities and imprisoned for three and a half months. Although it has since become difficult for him to re-enter Myanmar, he continues to engage with the country and its people. In a long-form interview, anchor Ikema delves into Kubota’s thoughts and convictions.
